5 Hauntingly Halloween advertisements we love

Halloween is here! So let’s take a look at some brands that have given us some killer ad content past and present to celebrate the spooky season. Curious to see what spectacularly scary ads have surfaced this October? Then be sure to read on:

1. Heinz 2022

In a bid to give everyone a fan(g)tastic fright this Halloween, Heinz has unveiled its very first (and very scary) black garlic mayo. Combining Heinz’s vegan mayonnaise with black garlic, Heinz [Scarily] Good Black Garlic Mayo is the perfect sauce for Halloween.

Katharina Kern, Brand Manager at Heinz, said: “We’re feeling extra spooky here at Heinz with the launch of our devilishly delicious [Scarily] Good Black Garlic Mayo and we can’t wait for our Heinz fans to experience a spooktacular new creation this Halloween. Our fang-tastic new Black Garlic Mayo is so good, even vampires can’t resist it.”

And to give the world’s biggest Heinz Mayo fans another chance to get their fangs into the new scary variety, the sauce specialists have launched an extra spooky 3D anamorphic AR advert – allowing those who cross its path to experience the technology at eye-level, in a world-first.

Fans can expect to see a life-like creepy castle that’s home to its very own vampire, who appears to leer out of the screen, promising a “trick or treat” for passers-by.

The ground-breaking 4K LED anamorphic AR billboard has been developed by specialists, 3rockAR, whose unique warp screen technology combines two HD Hero Magic Mirror screens that have been carefully angled. The screen made its first debut in the main central concourse of King’s Cross Station, London, this week – making the food giant one of the first brands in the world to apply this new technology to their advertising.

2. TWIX — ‘Halloween Spirits’ 2022

TWIX also had a few tricks when it came to advertising its treats this October.

Its ad depicts a group of teenagers attempting to communicate with spirits on Halloween. It succeeds in its mission as an invisible force unwraps a TWIX bar and bites it — completely spooking the teenagers and causing them to scream.

It then ends with a hilarious caption that reads, “The spirits have decided. Left or right, either is a good decision.”

This short and simple advert is frighteningly funny and eerily effective at getting the Halloween and marketing message across.

3. Mcdonalds 2021

These brilliantly designed McDonald’s ads that were designed by agency DDB last year are both fun and festive.

At first glance, it just looks like just an average McDonald’s advert, but the closer you look the more you can see a spooky face staring back at you. We love the subtlety of these ads and the way DDB have incorporated the McDonald’s colours make sure the posters are on brand whilst also conveying a certain eeriness to fit the Halloween theme.

4. Bacardi 2022

For Halloween this year Bacardi unveiled new glow-in-the-dark bottles.

With their bat-inspired designs, the limited-edition bottles are described as “the perfect decoration to take your Halloween parties to the next level”.

The bottles are available now across Bacardi Carta Blanca and Bacardi Spiced variants, with an RSP of £17.

New recipes have also been created to support the launch. The five recipes each come with a how-to video, which have been published on the brand’s website.

5. Burger King 2022

Burger King is getting into the Halloween spirit this year by inviting customers to try out its app’s new “ghost-hunting” feature. If you download the app you can scan your surroundings for supernatural activity. The app asks the ghost hunter to press the power button before walking around in search of ghouls.

Lucky or unlucky customers who spot a ghost will be able to claim a buy-one-get-one free coupon for Whoppers — one for them and one for their “ghoulish friend”.The deal can be claimed by placing a click-and-collect order via the app and applies to both Whoppers and plant-based Whoppers.

Burger King is a long-time fan of Halloween. Previously they have served a Halloween Whopper featuring a spooky black bun, and Nightmare King featuring an unsettling green bun. This year, in the US, Burger King is serving up the Ghost Pepper Whopper featuring a pumpkin-orange bun. Unfortunately Burger King isn’t releasing any frightening food in the UK this year much to our disappointment but the ghost-hunting feature is sure to get you in the Halloween spirit.
